My Learning Through Music programme provides exciting, totally interactive, structured, tailor made sessions for babies, toddlers and pre-school children, using the power of music to boost essential early learning skills. Incorporates NZ Sign language/Te Reo Māori.
Music is the primary and universal language understood by all. A child will start bouncing to music long before they learn to form their first word. It has the unique power to open minds to learning and ignite all areas of a child’s development. Research has shown that music has the ability to create new neural pathways. A 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills.
Through music we develop…
- Language and literacy skills
- Recognising patterns
- Problem solving
- Numeracy skills
- Social and emotional interaction
- Fine and gross motor skills (through movement and instrument play)
- Creativity and imagination
- Understanding of rhythm, pitch, tempo, beat and musical dynamics
- Life long love of music
According to Chinese Philosopher Confucius:
“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”
Created and operated by founder June Burney. June is a professional singer, songwriter and musician, a qualified numeracy literacy teacher, trained pre-school educator, trained in Tikanga Māori, NZSL and Orff for Elemental Music and Dance. June is a member of MENZA (NZ Professional Music Educators Association), ONZA (Orff New Zealand) and a member of the Kiwi Kids Music Collective.
She has many years experience, delivering engaging music workshops to thousands of young children and is particularly passionate about educating pre-school children through music, song, movement, rhyme, engaging props, musical games, instrument play and creative musical storytelling.
Not using a bought in programme, June has developed hundreds of unique sessions (including many of her own compositions) that she even adapts as the children are learning (in the session) to maximise learning whilst making it fun and engaging for the children.

Preschool Feedback
Review: 2021 Music Sessions / Giggles & Scribbles ECE yrs 3-5
The sessions are always well received by the Kaiako and Whanau we have in our centre and the tamariki ask each day “when is June coming”.
It has been a real benefit for the Tamariki to have June in our centre providing them with Music learning experience that have been rich and meaningful for the centre.
June is able to adapt to our learning demands and focus of the term and incorporate this into the opportunities for our tamariki.
The Kaiako enjoy also supporting June in the sessions making it a really great experience of teaching and learning particularly for our beginning Kaiako providing them with strategies and ideas for their practice related to fostering music into the centre for positive outcomes for the children.
